Senior Vice President, Operational Excellence

Bill Owad, senior vice president of Operational Excellence specializes in the strategies and tools that support the pursuit of a lean enterprise. Working with a team of nearly 150 Operational Excellence staff members and coaches across Cardinal Health, Owad is responsible for developing and implementing an enterprise approach to Operational Excellence at Cardinal Health, ultimately improving the value delivered to the company's customers.

In addition to his role as senior vice president, Owad also supports the extension of Operational Excellence external to Cardinal Health as the executive sponsor for the company's relationships with the Lean Enterprise Institute (LEI) Partner Program, the Healthcare Value Network, The Ohio State University Fisher College Center for Operational Excellence and the Conference Board Quality Council. During his tenure, Owad has held several positions within Operational Excellence and has served as the primary architect of the company's enterprise-wide deployment of Operational Excellence, which, over eight years, yielded significant improvements in customer loyalty, employee engagement, operational performance and working capital utilization.

Prior to joining Cardinal Health, Owad held several operations and administrative roles that have used the tools of Lean Six Sigma to transform health care provider organizations, supply chain and medical supply companies. These roles include corporate director of quality for ProMedica Health System, executive director for Cordelia Martin Health Center and several adjunct faculty positions with the College of Pharmacy at the University of Toledo and other nationally recognized programs.

Owad is also active in the community, serving in the past as board chair for the Central Ohio American Red Cross BioMedical Services, board chair for Cordelia Martin Health Center, senior examiner for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Program, and examiner / team leader for the Ohio Award for Excellence. Currently, Owad serves as a board member for the Partnership for Excellence, Mid-Ohio Foodbank, and the ASHP Research and Education Foundation.

Owad received his bachelor's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences and his Master's of Business Administration from the University of Toledo. His post-graduate work includes the achievement of Fellow status with the American College of Healthcare Executives, multiple Lean Six Sigma certifications and continued development as a Lean leader through his work with Cardinal Health and LEI. Owad has also authored several publications and presentations on quality systems and customer loyalty.

Vice President, Operational Excellence

Al is the Vice-President of Operational Excellence for the Pharmaceutical Segment. Specifically, Al leads the continuous improvement efforts for all pharmaceutical business units (Distribution, Nuclear, Specialty, Pharmacy Solutions) as well as LSS collaboration with customers and suppliers. Al is responsible for integrating Operational Excellence philosophies and methods to improve business performance, enhance the customer experience, and create supply chain efficiencies. Al rejoined Cardinal Health in October 2009 from Catalent Pharma Solutions (formally Cardinal Health PTS) where he was a Master Black Belt & Deployment Leader for their Oral Technologies Division. At Catalent, Al led OpEx efforts and lean implementations at 13 sites globally resulting in $45M of Type 1 savings over 3 years. Al originally joined Cardinal Health in May 2006 as a Master Black Belt.

Prior to joining Cardinal Health, Al spent over eight years at GE Superabrasives/Diamond Innovations leading engineering efforts, new product development, Lean Six Sigma capabilities, and quality initiatives. He applied DFSS techniques over 5 years in his engineering capacity for several product lines with $38M in annual sales.

Al has a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Master of Business Administration from The Ohio State University, where he also serves as an instructor teaching 3 Six Sigma classes annually.

Vice President, Operational Excellence

Ken has been involved in the enterprise deployment of operational excellence for Cardinal Health for the past eight years. Ken's primary responsibility has been to translating the application of continuous improvement using Lean Six Sigma methodologies across the healthcare value stream, including work with healthcare manufacturers and healthcare providers.

Overall, Ken has 23 years of general business experience in a wide range of functional roles including sales, design, production management and process improvement. His career has crossed several industries including primary metal working, advanced materials and metal stampings supporting various OEM products including automotive, appliances and industrial pumps.

Since 2009, Ken has been a technical coach for Ohio State University executive MBA candidates in the Business Operational Excellence program. Participants have included medical doctors, clinical researchers, finance directors, process engineers and registered nurses. As a coach, Ken helps participants apply operational excellence methodologies to everyday work.

Ken has been trained and certified in the Danaher Business System by Shingjutsu Kaizen and has also been certified in Six Sigma by General Electric.

Ken holds a Bachelor of Science, Aerospace Technology from Kent State University and an MBA, Operations Management and Quality from the Illinois Institute of Technology.

Director, Operational Excellence

Chris has more than 20 years of healthcare industry experience including leadership positions in the areas of laboratory, corporate health, operational excellence, and supply chain. He has Lean Six Sigma experience in Perioperative Services, Cardiovascular Services, Perinatal Services, Emergency Department, Infection Control, Laboratory, Risk Management, and Materials Management.

He demonstrated many successes within the areas of hospital operations at Mount Carmel Health System in Columbus, Ohio including strategic consolidation of pathology services and construction of an offsite Core Laboratory, open heart clinical excellence initiatives, surgical case cart redesign and workflow, OR scheduling, patient flow into the emergency department and pre-admission testing, reduction of catheter-related blood stream infections, improved pneumococcal vaccination rates, and revenue capture.

Since joining Cardinal Health, Chris has experiences in organizational development, operational excellence, and supply chain solutions consulting. He has embedded operational excellence capabilities across the organization conducting LSS training courses, mentoring Black Belts, Green Belts, Kaizen Leaders, and Sponsors, and coaching high potential employees. He has led lean cultural transformation across medical distribution network via Lean Roadmap to Success and Operating Model initiatives. And he has worked directly with acute care, ambulatory care, and laboratory customers in the assessment and implementation of supply chain operations improvements.

Currently, he is the Director of the Center of Excellence for Operational Excellence responsible for building people capabilities that embed operational excellence as an enterprise-wide core capability to drive value internally and externally and fosters a high performance culture.

Chris is actively involved with the Community Shelter Board for strategic planning and redesign of the adult crisis response system to end homelessness in central Ohio.

Director, Operational Excellence

Chris has more than 30 years of experience in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, continuous improvement, and quality management across a broad range of industries.

As a Black Belt and Master Black Belt, Chris has led a multitude of Lean and Six Sigma projects, conducted skills transfer events in large organizations, assisted with the development and deployment of Lean Six Sigma initiatives, and worked with clients in Enterprise Lean Transformations.

Chris began his career in the specialty-chemical industry as a chemist and quality manager leading internal quality improvement programs such as ISO 9000, TQM, and Malcolm Baldridge. He gained certification in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma disciplines in 2003. During the last nine years, Chris has conducted operational performance assessments, best practice analyses and benchmarking, led Lean and Six Sigma project improvement teams, conducted performance measurement analyses, and assisted client organizations with Lean and Six Sigma deployment transformations.

Chris holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Murray State University and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) (Emphasis on Six Sigma) from Grand Canyon University. Additionally, he is a Certified Master Black Belt, ASQ Certified Quality Engineer & ASQ Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence.

Director, Operational Excellence

Donna O'Connor joined Cardinal Health over seven years ago to create a Clinical Customer Advocacy program for the Pyxis ADC business. As the Clinical (RN) Customer Advocate, she was responsible for all aspects of escalated customer concerns related to medical device quality and regulatory compliance including root cause analysis through resolution. During this time, Donna became a Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and Kaizen Leader.

As Director, Operational Excellence, Donna is leading customer focused projects for Cardinal Health. Donna has also been successful in embedding Lean principles and facilitating large scale culture change. Prior to joining Cardinal Health, Donna was the clinical designer of Cerner Corporation's surgery and anesthesia (SurgiNet) EHR software. Donna was responsible for the design of their highly acclaimed Perioperative Case Tracking workflow application. Prior to Cerner, Donna was a Clinical Coordinator for Pain Services at Hahnemann University and formerly the Educator & CQI Coordinator for Perioperative Services.

Donna is a licensed Registered Nurse in PA and NJ and graduated from Eastern University with a BA in Business and Organizational Development. She was also on the faculty and taught post-graduate Perioperative curriculum and Surgical Technology in Southeastern PA and Southern NJ hospitals.

Director, Operational Excellence

Tim Dimond joined the Cardinal Health Operational Excellence team in 2008 to identify areas of opportunity and value for the largest Cardinal Health customers. In addition, he has developed tools and templates for the Cardinal Health consulting services organization.

Tim has led customer Operational Excellence efforts and lean implementations at more than 40 sites nationally, resulting in more than $20 million of savings over 5 years. Tim also drove the design, development, and implementation of a patented delivery method to Cardinal Health customers in certain segments of the business.

Prior to joining Cardinal Health, Tim spent 17 years at Pitney Bowes Management Services, 12 of those years dedicated to operations. During his time in operations he led several implementation projects, drove process standardization and assisted with underperforming accounts. Tim also spent 4 years in sales designing and developing proposals based on the needs of Fortune 500 companies. Tim received his Six Sigma certification at Pitney Bowes as a member of the Business Transformation group, focused on driving value for the top ten percent of accounts nationally.

Tim has a B.A. in Economics from Kent State University. He is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt from Pitney Bowes and certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt from Cardinal Health.
